Michael Labrie

As an avid photographer since age 10, and the grandson of primitive artist, Rose Labrie, I was exposed to the creation of art throughout my childhood, and like my grandmother, shunned formal training. I enjoy exploring surrealist expression and use my camera and computer to abstract reality by blurring motion, layering, and weaving multiple images together . Shooting in low light conditions, I use long exposure times and welcome the patterns created by moving subjects. Drawing upon images shot over 40 years, I combine color, motion, and texture into a sometimes cohesive scene. For many years, I have limited what I hang and make available for sale to the more easily understood abstracted landscapes. In private, the work that excites me has continued to evolve and I am now eager to start sharing work which may be more challenging to the viewer.
