“The UK’s James Hunter has made a name for himself as one of the premier practitioners of classic American soul music,” says POPMATTERS. “Hunter traffics in an aesthetic that owes an obvious artistic debt to classic artists such as Sam Cooke and Otis Redding, yet he injects an appealing individuality into his artistry,” states DOWNBEAT MAGAZINE.
GRAMMY Award Nominated Singer & Songwriter JAMES HUNTER has become known for a sound that is both nostalgic and forward-thinking. Over the span of 30 years, James Hunter has worked on the railway, busked in the streets of London, provided backup vocals and guitar for Van Morrison, played clubs and theaters all over the world, written scores of original songs, and recorded some of the most original and honest rhythm and soul albums of the last two decades. In the early 90s, Van Morrison recruited Hunter to sing backup on the road touring and on two albums, 'A Night in San Francisco' (1994) and 'Days Like This' (1995). In the years to follow, Hunter opened shows for Aretha Franklin, Etta James, BB King, Willie Nelson & Tom Petty. The JAMES HUNTER SIX include: FREDDY DEBOE (Tenor Saxophone), MICHAEL BUCKLEY (Baritone Saxophone), JUDD NIELSEN (Keyboards), MYLES WEEKS Myles Weeks (Double Bass), and RUDY PETSCHAUER (Drums).
