PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (PRWEB) JULY 04, 2022
Jimmy’s Jazz & Blues Club Features 4x-GRAMMY® Award-Winner & 11x-GRAMMY® Award Nominated Drummer, Composer & Bandleader BRIAN BLADE & THE FELLOWSHIP BAND on Friday August 12 & Saturday August 13 at 7:00 P.M. Renowned & critically acclaimed drummer Brian Blade is easily one of the most versatile and soulful musicians in Jazz and has been a long-standing member of legendary saxophonist Wayne Shorter’s band since the age of 30.
- “One of jazz’s most distinctive and sought-after drummers…” states NEW YORK TIMES.
- “Brian Blade is one of the finest drummers of his generation- he’s at the top of the list whether playing with extreme sensitivity or going full-throttle…” raves THE GUARDIAN.
Formed in 1997, Brian Blade & The Fellowship Band celebrate their 25th anniversary at Jimmy’s Jazz & Blues Club. They released their eponymous Blue Note debut in 1998, but the bond among the musicians goes back even further. Brian Blade, the band’s namesake and Drummer, first met Pianist Jon Cowherd in 1988 while attending Loyola University in New Orleans, and they met Bassist Chris Thomas in the Crescent City a year later. With Myron Walden (Alto Saxophone and Bass Clarinet) and Melvin Butler (Tenor Saxophone) the Fellowship Band unified their bond – “we think of the band as a collective instrument,” Cowherd says.
Brian Blade & The Fellowship Band’s latest release was in 2017 with their sublime and acclaimed fifth album, ‘Body and Shadow’, a succinct nine-track meditation on lightness/darkness that arrives like a balm for the soul, ebbing and flowing with grace, subtlety and no shortness of beauty. Brian Blade & The Fellowship Band have released five critically acclaimed albums: Brian Blade Fellowship (1998), Perceptual (2000), Season of Changes (2008), Landmarks (2014), Body and Shadow (2017).
- “It’s a profoundly important band, and Blade is widely acknowledged as one of the top drummers in jazz,” says DOWNBEAT MAGAZINE.
Brian Blade has recorded with an exceptional list of top musicians, including: Herbie Hancock, Joni Mitchell, Ellis Marsalis, Marianne Faithfull, Emmylou Harris, Billy Childs, Bob Dylan, Norah Jones, Kenny Garrett, Joshua Redmond, Antonio Sanchez, John Scofield, Dianne Reeves, Elvis Costello, Brad Mehldau, Christian McBride, Chick Corea, Michael Brecker, Roy Hargrove, Billy Childs, Bill Frisell, Sarah McLachlan, and many others.
“We are very excited to have Brian Blade & The Fellowship Band for two fabulous nights of jazz at Jimmy’s Jazz & Blues Club to celebrate their 25-year anniversary!” says Suzanne Bresette, the Managing Director of Programming at Jimmy’s Jazz and Blues Club. “Brian is considered one of the greatest jazz drummers of all-time. It is an honor to have him at Jimmy’s celebrating the 25-year anniversary of the Fellowship Band.”
