A young fellow named Frank Sinatra made his earliest known recording at age 19 on this day in 1935, when he and his bandmates from the Hoboken Four (billed as “Singing & Dancing Fools) appeared on “Major Bowes Amateur Hour” radio program. He also volunteered to speak for the group, saying, “I’m Frank, we’re looking for jobs — how about it? Everyone’s that’s ever heard us, liked us.” Following their winning performance, they embarked on a seven-month tour of the central and western United States and Canada.
