FRED HERSCH has regularly garnered jazz’s most prestigious awards, including 15 GRAMMY® Award Nominations, a 2016 Doris Duke Artist, a 3x-Jazz Journalists Association “Pianist of the Year” Award-Winner (2011, 2016, 2018), a 3x-Downbeat Critic’s Poll “Pianist of the Year” Award-Winner (2015, 2016, 2021), and the 2017 Prix Honorem de Jazz from L’Academie Charles Cros (France).
In 2014, Fred Hersch garnered his sixth GRAMMY® Award Nomination for his solo on “Duet” from Free Flying, a duo album with guitarist Julian Lage that received a rare 5-star rating from Downbeat Magazine. An exceptionally responsive and intuitive collaborator, Hersch has engaged in duo partnerships with a number of spirited artists, including Anat Cohen, Bill Frisell, Esperanza Spalding, Julian Lage and Miguel Zenon; as well as vocalists Kurt Elling, Kate McGarry and Renee Fleming.

The current FRED HERSCH TRIO, in which renowned pianist Fred Hersch is joined by bassist John Hebert and drummer Eric McPherson, kicked off its fifteenth year together in the summer of 2023. The Fred Hersch Trio’s debut album release, Whirl (2010), met with wide critical acclaim. A return to the Village Vanguard for 2016’s Sunday Night at the Vanguard netted another pair of GRAMMY® Award Nominations, again for “Best Jazz Album” and “Best Improvised Solo”.
