PRIMO CUBANO plays traditional Cuban dance music dating back to the turn of the 20th century. After 16 years of learning and performing the national music of Cuba, Primo Cubano was invited to perform at the 2024 Havana Jazz Festival! Tresero and lead vocalist Paul D'Alessio, a simple country man himself, came into contact with this music on a trip to Cuba in 2004 with the Brunswick-Trinidad Sister City Association, a cooperative between Brunswick, ME and the city of Trinidad, Cuba. Paul began learning to play Son music on a guitar-like instrument native to Cuba called the tres and subsequently formed PRIMO CUBANO, "Cuban Cousin". The band includes: PAUL D'ALESSIO (tresero & vocals) MARC CHILLEMI (trumpeter, percussionist, and vocals) LENNY HATCH (percussion/ congos), RAFAEL KEILT-FRE (bass, timbales, bongos & vocals) and RYAN HERGENHAN (timbales).
