“Fred Wesley is to the trombone what James Brown was to the microphone.” says the BOSTON GLOBE. “Wesley is a master of a powerful, nearly explosive, sound, and an intelligent, inventive soloist whose talent earned him the title of ‘The world’s funkiest trombonist.” states THE GUARDIAN.
Legendary Trombonist & Bandleaders FRED WESLEY is one of the forefathers of Funk, still setting the standard with his Jazz-Funk band THE NEW JB's. Together at its core for 30+ years, they perform such hits as "Pass the Peas" made with James Brown & Maceo Parker, as well as selections from the Parliament-Funkadelic years, and Fred's own and others' soulful Jazz, Funk & Blues compositions. Wesley was part of the original J.B's which was James Brown's band from the early 1970s to the early 1980s. With Brown, Fred became "the world's most famous sideman, orchestrating the sinuous grooves and contributing the bold, surgically precise solos that defined the language of funk." He helped take funk to the next level with George Clinton & Bootsy Collins. Fred has recorded a dozen acclaimed solo albums including the cult favorite 'House Party', and his latest, 'From The Blues and Back', released in early 2023. "Fred Wesley is one of the great trombone players of all time." raves NPR.
