Steve Turre Septet

“There are some excellent and original players on the contemporary scene [and] Turre is one of these, with his warm, soft-edged, markedly unbrassy tone,” says THE GUARDIAN. “Steve Turre has had a remarkable career. He played with Rahsaan Roland Kirk at the age of 20, (where Kirk introduced him to conch shells as a musical instrument) to gigs with Ray Charles, Art Blakey, Woody Shaw, Mongo Santamaria and many more. He’s released over 20 albums as a leader and has been part of the Saturday Night Live house band since 1985,” states ALL ABOUT JAZZ. “The accomplished trombonist latest gives youngsters and elders a place to shine,” says JAZZ TIMES (2023 Album Review of ‘Generations’).

World-Renowned Jazz Trombonist & Seashellist STEVE TURRE has consistently won both the Readers' & Critics' polls in Jazz Times, Downbeat Magazine, and Jazziz Magazine for "Best Trombonist" and for "Best Miscellaneous Instrumentalist" (Shells). Steve is considered by many as one of the best trombone players in the world! In 1972, Steve's career took off when Ray Charles hired him to go on tour. A year later Turre's mentor Woody Shaw brought him into Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. Since then Turre has worked with a diverse list of musicians, including Dizzy Gillespie, McCoy Tyner, Herbie Hancock, Van Morrison, Pharoah Sanders, Horace Silver, and Max Roach, among others. The Sextet includes: Acclaimed Vocalist ANDROMEDA TURRE (Ray Charles, Dizzy Gillespie); ORION TURRE (Drums); Prolific Trumpeter BRUCE HARRIS; GRAMMY® Nominated Saxophonist RON BLAKE (Roy Hargrove, Christian McBride); Cannonball Legacy Pianist RICK GERMANSON; and PAUL CUFFARI (Bass).
