Legendary R&B singer passed away in 2003 at age 58. Born in Galveston, Texas, on this day in 1944, he is unofficially credited with setting the mood for a whole lot of loving with the impossibly deep-voiced “crushed-velvet pillow talk” he brought to such classics as his 1974 #1 hit “Can’t Get Enough of Your Love, Babe,” (seen here on “Soul Train” in 1975). He also enjoyed poking fun at his reputation, as seen in this 1994 David Letterman clip “Top 10 Words That Sound Romantic When Spoken by Barry White.”
